Exploration Luma Matte

“Luma Matte: Is an effect created with two basic layers where the second images luminance to determine the transparency of the front image.

My possible ideas to turn a frame from black to white:

• White chalk being erased 
• White squares disappearing randomly 
• Ripped paper
• Black tape
• White cloth moving across the screen
• Cotton balls blown of the screen
• Change of tones of paper, starting white-tones of gray- black
• White board intro, covered by marker scratches
• Finger print sequence, covering the entire screen
• Brush strokes
• Paper bars, up and down (simulating music bars)
• Black bar in center increasing in length
• White paper crunched into center, and out of screen
• Black paper being ripped (Animation played backwards)
• Spiral effect from the center out
• Rice moving out of screen
• Broken mirror effect, Starts of with white background, black cracks tear down the white screen until only black is seen (Animation is played backwards)
• Starts of with a white background, pencil scratches cover the screen (Animation played backwards)
• Black paper is burnt until it completely disappears from screen
• Black background, white Zig-zag lines appear from top to bottom
• The frame starts with black screen, white color spots appear randomly until the screen is white.
• The frame starts with a pile of chalk pieces rolling out to reveal the white background
• Black Walls coming in spiral shape
• The frame starts with black curtains opening into a white screen 
• The frame starts with a bowl of milk, drops of black ink begin to fall
• The frame starts with a black screen and straight white lines begin to cover the screen in a circular    mode.
• The frame starts with a screen of black clay, that is then removed to end with a white screen (would be animated backwards)

Choice 1: Creation of the luma matte using an "origami" style transition. The animation would be shot beginning with the white frame, and bit by bit the white paper begins to fold, uncovering the black screen from behind, until completely disappearing. Once finished, the animation would then be played backwards, to go from black to white screen.

Choice 2: The frame begins with a black background, a series of black lines begin to uncover the page clockwise in a spiral style effect, until completely revealing the page behind, ending with a white background.

Choice three: The animation would be shot using a bowl of milk and black indian ink. To create,  beginning with the white screen of milk, and step by step adding small drops of ink until completely color the milk. This video would be shown in reverse. Beginning with the already colored ink, and creating an effect that the ink is coming out of the milk rather than into  it.

For the actual execution of the Luma Matte animation, I chose to try out the ink and milk technique. Because it's a technique that has been used a lot, and is very commonly seen, I wanted to find a twist to this technique and find a way to portray it in a different way than what we would normally expect to see with an ordinary ink and water or ink and milk animation.
